SpencerStuart, a global executive search and leadership consulting firm, needed design concepts for an eLearning initiative focused on continuous employee professional development. The design requirements were to take a minimalist approach that avoided the use of photos or illustrations of people in order to avoid a corporate look and feel, while incorporating the color palette from their corporate branding guidelines and maintaining the branding system principles. The overall look and feel was designed to be clean, fun and flexible enough to be carried through 17 different modules.
Screen Layout Design
Once the design treatments had been settled on, I worked on the individual screen layouts that are designed by referencing the wireframe documents supplied by the instructional designer. After the screen layouts have been designed and built in powerpoint, they are passed along to the developer and imported into the Articulate Storyline development environment.
Button & Image Library
In the process of creating the screen layouts I typically create a library of icons, buttons and their rollover states, as well as menu systems and various image elements that can be reused and repurposed as needed within the development environment. These are created to be easily modified (i.e., colors changed, resized) within Storyline.
